We at People Psychology Brighton love knowing that our therapy can in fact be an instrument to help make a positive change in people’s lives. We use each and every day as a chance to provide real change and positive outcomes to clients and their families.
This is also the reason why we aim to provide a safe space for our clients in an accessible environment. Our offices are easy to reach in different parts of Australia, and we make sure getting to our offices isn’t too difficult a journey to make. We understand taking the first step and wishing to undergo therapy can be difficult, so we make the second step – undergoing therapy – a bit easier for you.
Our office is located in the gorgeous Bay St. in Brighton where we have a team of therapists dedicated and ready to help everyone have a safe place where they are able to express their struggles, concerns and anxiety. In turn, we are dedicated to help them cope with their issues.
Our psychologists are more than equipped with the right training and tools to make sure we can help you create a positive difference to your life and for those around you. Counselling is what you call the process of obtaining insight on various issues by expressing your feelings and thoughts to a trained counsellor or psychologist. Counselling sessions aim to help you comprehend and hopefully resolve issues that cause you distress.
It’s perfectly normal for individuals, families, couples and individuals to seek counselling in order to assess and solve various problems and issues they encounter everyday. Expressing becomes easier for clients because the counsellor is not part of their personal life. Not to mention, since everything said in sessions is confidential, clients have the freedom to express themselves openly.
It is important to understand, however, that a counsellor does not tell you what you should do. They instead try to assist your growth and help you make a move that you are willing to commit to.
Similar to how weight lifters in the gym will gain more progress with the help of a personal trainer, those who try counselling may find themselves moving forward in their lives much more comfortably with guidance. With the help of counsellors, we can gain a better understanding of the various relationships and situations that we experience and encounter throughout our lives.
Psychologists are by training those who research and study the science involving human behavior. Psychologists need six (6) years of training in order to properly understand human relationships, mental processes, and human behavior. They require four (4) years of basic university training, and two more years in internships and specialisations. As such, psychologists are trained in a wide variety of psychological therapies. They are capable of collaborating with psychiatrists and doctors as needed, given their clients know and consent to these methods.
Should it be required, we can write psychological reports for instances such as TACs, Work Cover, and court proceedings. These reports are charged separately, and in addition to our psychological consultations.
Absolutely! Everything you say and express will be confidential and private. The only exceptions to this situation is if you may be at risk of harming others and yourself, or when the law subpoenas your file.
There’s nothing to prepare for if you’re on your way to your first session. Psychologists work by conversing with you, which means much of your first session will be about you trying to describe the problem you’re facing and why it led you to seek psychological counselling. Should you feel lost, psychologists are there to ask questions and help you on your way – with questions regarding when the problem started, what you hope to gain from the session, and what motivated you to seek help.
Everyone has different problems, and as such everyone will have different ranges of counselling sessions. These depend on the circumstances surrounding your reason for counselling in the first place. Sometimes, some people come for just a few sessions while others come regularly. You are in fact free to stop attending these sessions just as you are free to resume them at any point in the future. This is an option people may take when problems appear given counselling is an easy way for them to access mentors. It’s much easier when you tackle your problems with the same counsellor as this is someone who knows you very well.
Our opening hours are 9AM to 9PM, Monday to Friday, and 9AM to 5PM on Saturdays.

Similar to many psychologists, we select counselling and therapy from a wide range of approaches and techniques. These all depend on what approach seems to best serve the needs of our clients.
These may include: Psychological Counselling, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Hypnosis, Emotion Focused, Narrative, Psychodynamic, Systemic, Schema Therapy, Solutions-Focused, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Mindfulness and Motivational Interviewing.
