About

Debbie Carnie is friendly and cheerful and can relate to many people of diverse backgrounds. Her colleagues would say that she is a hard worker and someone who provides some light entertainment when appropriate. She has a positive outlook on life. She loves working with children and their parents and is glad to be part of their successes.

Debbie has over 25 years of experience working with children and teenagers who present with multiple and complex needs. She has deep and personal knowledge and insight gained from direct involvement with her family and extended family members who as teenagers suffered from mental health issues autism, and learning difficulties.

Debbie uses an eclectic approach to therapy which is flexible and adaptive to the children and youth that she treats and their families. She creates an individualised treatment plan for children and therapy and usually reviews progress after six weeks.

Treatment Approaches

Treatment modalities include child focused parent support, psychotherapy and play therapy. For older aged children and youth, Debbie uses mindfulness, relaxation, cognitive behavior therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy and dialectical behavior therapy.
